Drivers contend with 'Black Ice Friday'
Despite extremely slick, icy roads Friday morning that led to some slide-offs, only 10 accidents and one hit-and-run were reported to local emergency response agencies between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., none resulting in injuries.
One driver referred to road conditions as “Black Ice Friday.”
However, road conditions grew worse in the evening as snow fell atop iced-over roads.
A Thanksgiving disaster was averted at a Lindsey Court home thanks to the quick thinking of the residents. The Creston Fire Department responded to the home when it was reported that an outlet had shorted out inside the wall, but the residents’ immediate response of shutting off the power kept a fire from sparking.

The culprit in an Evergreen home burglary was determined to be the ex-husband of the resident.
A Whitefish Police Department officer counseled a phone book deliverer on his driving after he was reported driving “all sorts of reckless,” speeding through alleys, stopping for another man to jump out and throw a phone book at houses, then peeling out when the man jumped back in.
An officer responded shortly before 2:30 a.m. Friday morning to the home of a couple with a history of domestic disputes after the pair had been drinking and got into an argument. The woman told police she called 911 so her boyfriend would be quiet. Neither felt the need to leave the residence, and both agreed it was time for bed.
A Columbia Falls Police Department officer responded to a Nucleus Avenue bar after a man reported he was high on drugs after someone spiked his drink. The officer was unable to locate the man.
A suspicious man in his mid-20s was reported walking around the area of Ninth Street West asking women if they “need a sugar daddy.” The man was found to have a warrant out of Lewiston, Idaho, for failing to appear in court on a drunk driving charge.
