Mary M. Pewonka, 84

Mary M. Pewonka, 84, died peacefully Nov. 25, 2013, in Kalispell with loved ones by her side.

She was one of six children born to Ed and Flora Christensen on Dec. 11, 1928, in Plentywood. She attended grade school in Reserve and high school in Medicine Lake.

Mary moved to Kalispell in 1947, and married Marvin Eayrs and had two children, Don Eayrs and Linda Hadley. Marvin died in 1972.

She married Jim Pewonka in 1975, and he preceded her in death in 2003.

Mary worked for the Council on Aging for 11 years, and Jim and Mary managed the Glacier Manor for 13 years. She was a charter member of the Moose and a 42-year member of the Eagles.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother and two sisters.

She is survived by her son, Don Eayrs; daughter, Linda Hadley; two granddaughters, Amy Marsh and husband Kurt, and their two children, Gunnar and Grant, and Heather Hadley Schiele and husband Robin, and their children, Tashea and Gavin; sisters, Sheri Andrews and husband, Don, of Ronan, and Kaaren Arnoux and husband, Dan, of Kalispell; and many nieces and nephews. She leaves behind many close friends, including the “special” Frost family.

Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the most important people in her life. Her words of advice to them were “Always smile and give a kind word.”

At her request there will be no funeral services. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at time of burial.
