Gun-cleaning session is harmful

Evergreen Fire Rescue responded to a South Cedar Drive home after a man accidentally shot himself in the stomach while cleaning his gun. Fire Chief Craig Williams said the man was in stable condition by the time he arrived at the emergency room at Kalispell Regional Medical Center, where he was set to undergo surgery.

The Whitefish Fire Department responded to Primrose Lane at noon Tuesday after receiving a report of an explosion followed by flames, possibly in a garage. Fire Chief Tom Kennelly said responders discovered the explosion was caused when the resident started a brush pile on fire with gasoline, which made a bang and led the resident’s neighbor to believe the house was on fire.

A Kila parent contacted the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office after finding out another boy threatened the parent’s son, saying he was going to bring a gun to school and shoot the son over a girl who likes one of the boys and not the other. The school’s principal was aware of the situation and was advised of the actions being taken by the sheriff’s office.

A man was arrested after it was initially reported that he broke into his ex-girlfriend’s camper on Shady Lane and tried to attack her, shoving her onto the bed. He fled the scene and was later apprehended near a bar where he was found. He was later cited for stealing a black trench coat from the camper after being booked into jail.

A passerby reported a motorist smoking something — believed to be marijuana — out of a glass pipe on U.S. 93 South.

A concerned motorist reported clipping the back tire of a bicycle being ridden by a young boy on West Evergreen Drive after the boy darted out in front of her while she was driving to the school. The boy didn’t fall down, was unhurt, and continued on to school, but the motorist wanted law enforcement as well as the school to know what happened.

A “creepy person” reported knocking on the door of a Bigfork woman’s Latigo Lane home was later found out to be the neighbor’s son, who was counseled.

A pair of gallivanting goats were stopped in their tracks when they got tangled in some fencing off Terrace Road. They were later freed then tied up properly so their owner could pick them up.

Someone broke a window on a Marion home and stole several items, including several very valuable paintings.

A manic mother contacted the Kalispell Police Department after her 12-year-old daughter went to sleep in her car, and when she went out to the vehicle, she couldn’t get her daughter — who had locked all the doors to the vehicle — to wake up. With the help of an officer, the mother was able to wake her daughter, who was fine other than being “really tired.”

A woman called to complain that she could no longer shut or lock her back door after officers kicked the door in while she was gone to arrest a man who was there.

A confused Fourth Street West man reported someone left a guitar in his yard right after school let out.

Someone with a sugar craving they just couldn’t fight smashed a candy dispenser on Second Street East.

A woman was arrested after she was seen choking her daughter on the balcony of a Liberty Street apartment.

A woman was seen with a crack pipe in her hand and a man and a dog in her pickup, which was parked in an empty grass lot on U.S. 93 South.

A teenage boy wearing a green flannel shirt raised the ire of a motorist on North Meridian Road when he kept dodging into traffic on his bicycle.

An East Idaho Street trickster was found and counseled after a woman at a nearby business reported that someone on the top floor of a nearby motel was shining a red laser light on her.

A Flathead Avenue resident reported a man keeps driving by and making threatening gestures.

A black bear was seen going up the hill toward Minnesota Avenue before going into the woods. It was later seen near Iowa Avenue and then headed back toward Wisconsin Avenue.

A B Street resident contacted the Columbia Falls Police Department to report all five lugnuts on the rear drivers side of the resident’s vehicle were loosened back in July.
