Genre-defying trio in concert

| October 2, 2013 5:00 PM

A genre-busting trio kicks off Flathead Valley LIVE on Stage’s 2013-14 season Oct. 14.

Sonic Escape presents a program of virtuosic works spanning classical, world and popular music at Flathead High School starting at 7:30 p.m.

Juilliard graduates Shawn Wyckoff (flute), Maria Kaneko Millar (violin) and Nan-Cheng Chen (cello) form Sonic Escape. The trio has appeared in diverse environments from Carnegie Hall to Beale Street, and they have been known to collaborate with American Indian flute masters.

Their performance style is highly physical and includes dance, most poignantly reflected in Millar’s own “Tsuru (for Solo Dancing Violinist with Fabric).”

Sonic Escape has won multiple awards, grants and residencies for composition as well as performance. The ensemble also created “Sonic Stage,” a highly interactive, improvisational event combining music, storytelling and roundtable discussion for a six-week, 10-state tour of libraries, art centers and concert halls.

The concert is sponsored by Flathead Valley LIVE on Stage, formerly Flathead Valley Concerts Association.

Admission is by season subscription or single ticket at the door. Adults get in for $30; seniors 62 and over, $25; students, $15; and families, $70.
