Prep football poll: Glacier rises to No. 4 in AA
Glacier jumped a spot and Columbia Falls and Bigfork remain among the top ranked teams in their respective classes in this week’s Associated Press prep football poll.
Glacier (4-1) leapfrogged Butte for the No. 4 spot in the Class AA poll after beating the Bulldogs 58-41 in the Mining City last week. Butte (3-2) fell one spot to No. 5.
The two teams are behind the final three unbeatens in the state, led by Bozeman (5-0), which garnered nine of 10 first place votes. Capital (5-0) is ranked second, picking up the final first place vote, and Helena High (5-0) is third. Capital plays in Bozeman this week to likely determine who will claim the top spot in next week’s poll and hold the upper hand in the bid for the top playoff seed.
Despite picking up a commanding win over rival Whitefish last week, Columbia Falls (5-0) fell one spot in Class A to No. 3. One-loss Billings Central (3-1) jumped up a spot to No. 2 behind unanimous No. 1 Dillon (4-0). No. 4 Laurel (3-2) and No. 5 Miles City (3-1) are in the poll after being unranked last week. Polson (3-1) received one fifth-place vote after opening conference play with a 32-22 win over Frenchtown.
Bigfork (4-0) rose a spot in Class B to No. 3 following a resounding victory over Shelby on Friday. Baker (4-0) rose one spot to No. 2, picking up three first-place votes and trailing only Missoula Loyola (3-0), which has held the top spot all season. Townsend (3-0) and Huntley Project (4-1) follow Bigfork in the top five. Glasgow (3-1), Forsyth (4-0), Fairfield (2-1), Jefferson (4-1) and Whitehall (4-0) round out the top 10.
Ennis remains the top team in Class C 8-Man and Geraldine-Highwood the top team in 6-Man.
