Three schools earn awards for job efforts

The Department of Labor and Industry’s Jobs for Montana’s Graduates program ranks number one in the nation for positive outcomes, earning a “5 for 5” award.

Fifteen Montana schools, including Whitefish, Libby and Troy high schools, were recognized with “5 of 5” awards, according to a press release.

The ratings come from the national Jobs for America’s Graduates Program, which establishes performance outcomes for students enrolled in Jobs for Montana’s Graduates.

The standards include graduation rates and positive outcomes in the transition to work, post-secondary education, military or full-time job placement. Laura McCrohan of Libby Central Alternative High School and March Rochin of Polson High School were among eight people recognized as outstanding career specialists by Jobs for Montana’s Graduates.

Jobs for Montana Graduate’s currently serves approximately 950 students in 33 high schools, 11 middle schools, five alternative high schools and one “out-of-school” program.

Montana’s numbers in these areas are as follows:

• 98 percent graduate from high achool.

• 83 percent are working.

• 97 percent are working, in the military, or are attending college.

• 94 percent are in full-time placement such as working or schooling.

• 75 percent are in full-time employment or the military.
