Cross country: Whitefish boys win T-Falls Invitational
THOMPSON FALLS — The Whitefish boys finished first and the Whitefish girls second at the Thompson Falls Invitational cross country meet on Thursday.
Whitefish, led by Caleb Knox, fourth in 16:50, Keaton Grove, sixth in 16:58, EJ Havens, seventh in 16:58, and Thomas Henson, eighth in 17:05, had a team score of 41.
“That was our first win of the season,” Whitefish coach Sara Brist said.
“The top four boys were within 15 seconds of each other. They packed well. It was exciting for our boys to win and do well.”
Timberlake High School from Idaho was second, 47.
Columbia Falls, which placed fifth, was led by Zayne Brunz, 15th in 17:43.
Timberlake topped the girls team standings with a 42 score. Whitefish, was second, 57, and Columbia Falls third, 103.
Peyton Twete was seventh for Whitefish, 20:58. Katie Smith was right behind her in eighth, 21:01, and Sloan Ellis came in 10th, 21:16.
Whitefish’s top runner — Sarah Latcham — did not compete because of an illness.
“The other girls stepped up and still ran well,” Brist said.
“Everybody on the team ran their fastest today. That was good.”
Meredith Stolte had the best showing for Columbia Falls, eighth in 21:04.
Eureka’s Alex Barthmess was fifth, 20:26.
Up next for for several of the teams at this event is the Whitefish Invitational on Sept. 12.
