Volleyball roundup: Bigfork tops Eureka in 3

BIGFORK — Tessa Robertson had seven kills and four blocks to help Bigfork spill Eureka 25-11, 25-20, 25-23 on Thursday evening in District 7B volleyball action.

Josie Spoklie led the victors in assists with 13 and chipped in with three aces.

“The team definitely grew tonight,” Bigfork coach Melody Strauss said.

The things that stood out in her mind were the team’s “communication on the court, the girls didn’t let anything hit the ground and I think their confidence.”

Strauss also praised the serving. Bigfork had 14 aces to Eureka’s nine.

Elliott Peterson had six kills and four blocks to key Eureka’s net game.

Bigfork (4-5 overall, 3-2 league) plays at Plains on Saturday, while Eureka (2-8, 1-4) travels to Thompson Falls.

WHITEFISH — Libby had to rely on a strong finish to pull off a Northwestern A road victory over Whitefish.

The scores: 25-21, 25-12, 19-25, 20-25, 17-15.

Both teams are 1-3 in league play.

Libby had the upper hand in kills, 42-28, assists, 39-29, digs, 78-35, and aces, 26-4. Hannah England had team highs for Libby in assists, 37, and aces, 15.

Polson 3, Stevensville 1

POLSON — Jaiden Toth led the Pirates in assists and aces and picked up 20 digs despite playing with a broken toe in Polson’s four-set win over Stevensville in a Class A nonconference match.

“This is the first time I’ve seen our team play complete team ball,” Polson coach Jan Toth said. “Definitely my defense, especially the block. Stevensville is probably the hardest hitting team we’ve faced.”

Polson’s defense was impressive, picking up 97 digs and four blocks. Kaelen Wall led the Pirates with 17 kills and Chloie Huerta added 13.

Flathead JV 1

Stillwater Christian dropped the first set, but rallied back to down the Flathead JV 13-25, 25-23, 15-10, 15-12 in nonconference volleyball play.

Stillwater improves to 10-3 overall.

“The girls came out and played with unity tonight,” Stillwater coach Diane Smith said.

“They never let up.

“But I have to say our libero Sophie George played her best game yet.”
