Glacier's Smith 2nd at Butte run

BUTTE — Flathead’s boys, led by Sylas Schutt, finished fourth in the team standings at the Butte Invitational cross country meet on Saturday.

Helena (51) took top honors with Bozeman (71) second, Missoula Hellgate (81) third and Flathead (111) next in line.

Schutt finished ninth, 16:16.98.

Glacier (292) was 10th in the final standings. The Wolfpack was led by Tevyn Stetson, who placed 15th, 16:30.96.

On the girls side, Glacier received a stellar effort from Bailey Smith, second overall with a time of 18:16.46.

Glacier (162) was seventh in the standings.

Flathead (149) was sixth. The Bravettes were led by Nicole Bouma, ninth in 19:16.54.

“Bailey Smith ran extremely well,” Glacier coach Mike McLean said.

“She got the stars today.

“She ran strong the whole race, brought her time down to a level she should be at,” McLean added.

“Best I’ve ever seen her run.”

McLean said Stetson “ran a solid race.”
