Confusion follows gunshot reports
A report to the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office of shots fired on First Street South West in Hungry Horse led to a pair of stories as to the gunshots’ source.
While the first story claimed a resident of the home had fired a single shot from a rifle during an argument, another person reported six men showed up looking for the resident, and that one of them had the rifle and fired it into the ground, not the resident. The person said the resident had not been there for four to five weeks and was “tweaking” on methamphetamine.
A shocked Rocky Meadows Loop woman contacted the sheriff’s office after ordering a Doberman puppy online and receiving the animal in an “itty bitty” crate meant for a much smaller dog. She claimed to have paperwork that showed the dog wasn’t healthy enough to ship in the first place, much less in the small crate. The woman wanted to file charges against the Memphis, Tenn., breeders and United Airlines for accepting the dog in such a small crate.
A Columbia Falls man called 911 after having an altercation with the mother of his child. He reported she was drunk and had threatened him with a knife, and that she had taken a swing at him with the knife, but that it did not cut him because it was dull. He also said he hit her above the eye. The woman also claimed the man was drunk, and both claimed the other had the knife and that the other was the aggressor. Neither one wanted to file a report.
A highly observant Highland Drive man reported someone tried to burn his house down after he found part of his house on fire and a gas can nearby. He was able to put the fire out himself, and told a dispatcher that he believed he knew who was responsible but didn’t want to file a report until he spoke to some people.
A concerned woman reported seeing a trio of suspicious Middle Eastern men in a long white van with Illinois plates on Montana 35.
A bear roughly four feet tall was reported in the area of the beach, getting into garbage.
A woman contacted the sheriff’s office after purchasing a house in Kila from a hoarder who left all his belongings behind when he moved out, wanting to know what she could do with all his stuff.

The Kalispell Police Department was part of a misled manhunt Monday night into Tuesday morning after being contacted by the Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office in Idaho and told of a woman possibly abducted along with her 6-year-old son by her grandfather, and that one of their cellphones had been tracked to Kalispell. A little more than 10 hours after they started looking for the trio, the woman called from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, to report she had not been abducted, that it was a misunderstanding and that she had wanted a break from her family.
A man who wasn’t about to let himself be victimized caught a burglar going through his truck on East Idaho Street and yelled at him to stop. The burglar raised a flashlight to strike the man, but the man grabbed the flashlight and instead started beating the burglar with it, telling him to get out, which the burglar then did.
A 13-year-old boy dropped off on East Oregon Street to do community service went to the bathroom and never returned.
