Whitefish boys, girls hosting Class A soccer playoff matches

Two-time defending Class A state boys champion Whitefish opens first-round soccer playoff action Saturday with a home match versus Livingston.

The Whitefish girls also begin postseason play Saturday with Livingston at home.

The girls game will begin at noon followed by the boys at 2 p.m. Both matches will take place at the Rollie and Heide Smith Youth Sports Park Soccer Field.

The Whitefish boys and girls are top seeds from Northwestern A.

The WHS boys take a 9-1-2 overall mark into the playoffs.

The WHS girls finished the regular season with a 10-2-0 record.

Columbia Falls (6-2-3), the divisional runner-up to Whitefish, travels to Hamilton for a noon match on Saturday in girls playoff action.

And Polson (6-5-1), the No. 3 girls seed from Northwestern A, visits five-time defending state champ Billings Central (12-0) on Saturday. That match begins at 11:30 a.m. at Rocky Mountain College.

Billings Central is 86-1 since 2008.

For the boys, Northwestern A second seed Libby (4-5-2) has a road match Saturday with Billings Central at 9:30 a.m. at Rocky Mountain College.

The No. 3 Northwestern A boys seed is still undecided. Columbia Falls (2-4-1 league) hosts Libby today in the regular-season finale for both schools. Riding on that outcome is a trip to the playoffs for either Columbia Falls or Bigfork.

Bigfork (3-4-1) completed its schedule on Saturday.

If Bigfork and Columbia Falls tie for third place, a tie-breaker will determine who advances.

Stevensville will host either Bigfork or Columbia Falls on Saturday at 3 p.m. in playoff action.

Semifinal playoff action will be held Oct. 26, followed by championship matches on Nov. 2.
