Glacier spikers place 3rd

MISSOULA — Glacier defeated Great Falls High 25-20, 25-21 on Friday to place third at the Missoula Invitational volleyball tournament.

The third-ranked Wolfpack posted a 13-1 mark on Thursday in pool play to advance to the championship bracket for the final day.

“I was really proud of the way we battled back today,” Glacier coach Christy Harkins said. “Won our opening round, lost our second round to Helena High, then played Flathead five minutes later and Great Falls High five minutes after that and won both of those. That’s a lot of matches right in a row against some great competition. To be able to come out on top showed a lot of courage from those kids today.”

Flathead went 14-0 in pool play Thursday and posted a 1-2 mark in the championship round.

Helena Capital defeated Flathead 25-22, 12-25, 16-14. The Bravettes rebounded to beat Columbia Falls 25-18, 25-14 and then lost to Glacier.

Fifth-ranked Helena High won the invitational title by beating Helena Capital 25-18, 25-21.

In the consolation championship match, Missoula Sentinel defeated Polson 25-13, 25-19.
