Woman's mailbox decorated with deer head

A young shoplifter led to several calls to the Kalispell Police Department over Friday night and Saturday morning.

At 11:11 p.m. an employee at a U.S. 93 South supermarket reported he had rounded up a pair of youths while a third got away. The pair said they didn’t have anything, but their friend — whom they identified to police — escaped with several food items.

At 11:52 p.m., a Harlequin Court resident reported someone had just jumped out of their backyard and into a neighbor’s yard. The boy was stopped in the backyard of a neighbor by the resident’s husband, but he again escaped. The husband also identified the boy as the same person.

The boy’s backpack was then found stashed on the north side of a Ruddy Duck Drive home.

The final call came in at 10:27 a.m. the following day, another person called to provide further information about the boy.

A bewildered Woodland Drive resident found her mailbox had been moved and placed across the street with a deer head placed on top.

A trio of teenage boys and an adult sister were counseled after the boys were reported throwing dirt clods at cars on Appleway Drive.

A report of a stolen muffin at a U.S. 93 North coffee shop turned out to be a miscommunication with a customer who thought they were free samples since they were in a basket on the windowsill. They returned and paid for the burgled baked good.

A baggie containing a suspicious white powder and a pipe was found on a patient in the emergency room.

An Appleway Drive woman reported her ex was posting pornographic pictures of her on the Internet. After speaking with an officer, she decided to do some more research, talk to a civil attorney, then call back.

A frightened Sixth Avenue West woman called police after a man called from a private number and said “I’m on a mission to kill you.” She thought she may have recognized the man’s voice, but was unsure.

A Steel Bridge Road man caught poachers out shooting deer on his property and chased them off, but officers were unable to located them.

A passerby reported a brawl outside a U.S. 93 South bar, but the mob had dispersed by the time officers arrived. They decided to stick around to keep an eye on the end-of-night crowd as the bar was shutting down.


A man and woman were arrested by Whitefish Police Department officers after the woman drove her vehicle into a parked vehicle on East Second Street, causing major front-end damage.

A condiment caper was reported on Baker Avenue, where a resident said someone squirted mustard all over his Jeep and a garage across the alley.

A woman was told a Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks officer would be by to put out a bear trap after she reported there was a black bear in her backyard that wouldn’t leave, even after she asked nicely.

A man was arrested on multiple warrants during a traffic stop on Wisconsin Avenue, while a passenger was released to his mother.


The Columbia Falls Police Department was involved in a pursuit on U.S. 2 East where a pair of men were seen driving at more than 100 miles per hour in a dark green Ford Mustang.

A report of a fight between a man and woman at an Eighth Avenue East North apartment, including a woman being hit and falling into rocks, turned out to be the result of the couple playing, not fighting.

A report came in of people hunting deer in the park after the caller heard four shots from that direction.

A man was reported for continued sexual harassment of female employees at a Nucleus Avenue store.
