AA soccer playoffs: Big Sky shuts down Glacier boys
MISSOULA — The Glacier boys soccer team’s season came to an end with a 5-0 loss to Missoula Big Sky in a state tournament play-in game Tuesday.
Big Sky (10-1-2) , the No. 2 seed in Western AA, handed Glacier (0-12-1) two lopsided losses in the regular season and Tuesday was no different as Tristan Powers scored three goals to lead the Eagles to victory.
The game was scoreless until the 37th minute when Powers netted his first goal on an assist from Sam McKay. Big Sky scored its other four goals in the second half. Powers scored his third goal on a 52nd-minute penalty kick and Nikolay Lemeza and Matt Doran added Big Sky’s other goals at 66 and 79 minutes, respectively.
Big Sky outshot Glacier 21-4. Glacier goalkeeper Lonnie Sherman finished with nine saves while Big Sky goalkeeper Nathan Mahler stopped all five shots he faced.
Big Sky advances to the Class AA state tournament, which begins Oct. 31 in Helena.
