Thanks to all for 'Thinking Pink'

The “Think Pink” movement in the Flathead Valley has been stronger than ever this October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

We’re glad to see advocacy and awareness of this disease at an all-time high, and were proud to help get the word out in Wednesday’s edition of the Inter Lake, which included a pink section that highlighted local resources and a front-page article on the importance of mammograms.

The Save a Sister breast cancer awareness group has helped hundreds of Montana residents and keeps working to provide free mammograms and ultrasounds for those who can’t afford the screening procedures.

Early detection of this cancer, as well as for many other types of cancers, is crucial.

Rebecca Farm’s donation of $71,000 this week to national and local groups fighting breast cancer is a wonderful example of the local depth of commitment in fighting this disease.

The Flathead Valley has a number of wonderful resources for women right here at home, including the Bass Breast Center at Kalispell Regional Medical Center and Glacier Bosom Buddies, a group of breast cancer survivors who offer support to patients and their families.

So Think Pink. Support the cause. Support the cure.

West Valley does it!

Congratulations and thanks are both in order for the folks in the West Valley who have generously voted to support the long overdue expansion of the school.

The $6.8 million bond issue was approved by a surprisingly strong eight-point margin — 56 percent to 44 percent — in the mail-ballot election that concluded Tuesday.

West Valley has seen its student population swell in recent years as  newcomers sought the peaceful lifestyle of the area, and the school was unable to keep pace, despite noble efforts to convert every practical square inch of the facility to some kind of educational use.

The school board iss committed to taking care of the district’s children, and providing them the best possible education. They got out the word to everyone just how desperate the conditions were becoming, and the voters stepped up to the plate and hit a big home run.

Another success story

The Whitefish community also has a lot to be thankful for this week, as North Valley Hospital has recently completed a 1,600 square-foot expansion of its surgical facilities.

The hospital is an important part of the Flathead Valley’s burgeoning reputation for medical excellence, and since relocating to its current location south of Whitefish in 2007, it has seen tremendous growth in both services and customer base.

We applaud the hospital’s commitment to excellence.
