Glacier celebrates senior night versus Great Falls
The playoffs already clinched, Glacier football is looking to stay on top of the Class AA heap as it takes on Great Falls High today at Legends Stadium.
The Wolfpack (7-1) is one of the hottest teams in the state, but will have their hands full with the physical team from the plains. While the Bison (1-7) haven’t had the best of seasons, their record doesn’t show how well they’ve played to this point.
“I think the last couple of years they haven’t won as many games as I know they’d like to win, but they’ve been very competitive,” Glacier coach Grady Bennett said.
“They’ve played a lot of teams tough that played us tough. We know that we’re going to have to play our best and play a good game on Friday night.”
Great Falls has played close with the majority of its schedule, with close losses to Sentinel and Flathead, while hanging with Butte and Big Sky.
Bison running back Brad Humphreys has proven to be one of the top backs in the state, averaging nearly 110 yards a game. He’s been a work horse for the program, touching the ball on nearly 48 percent of Great Falls’ offensive plays this season.
“He’s a big kid,” Bennett said.
“He does it all for them ... He’s legitimate. That’s what they want to go with. Get him the ball as much as they can. He’s good. We definitely have to bottle up the run first.”
Glacier has been able to stop the run all season, bottling up teams for less than 87 yards a game.
The Wolfpack is third in scoring defense this season and fourth in total defense.
“We try to stop the run first and try to make them one-dimensional,” Bennett said.
“That’s the strength of our defense, really getting after the run game. Force them to do something they’d rather not do.”
Glacier will look to keep its offensive rhythm flowing against the Bison.
The Wolfpack has scored at least 31 points in every game during its five-game win streak, topping 50 twice.
It’s also the last scheduled home game for the Wolfpack, though they won’t have to travel far for their final game, traversing only 54 yards to the east sideline at Legends against Flathead Nov. 1.
Still, Glacier will hold its senior night festivities before the game for its final night in home greens of the regular season.
“There’s always so many things to motivate you,” Bennett said.
“It’s a special night for our seniors. Saying goodbye to a group, what these guys have done with a lot of people doubting them coming into the season. Man, have they played great and done good things.”
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Legends Stadium.
