State soccer: FHS girls start with CMR; Whitefish girls at Billings Central

Flathead opens Class AA girls state soccer action Thursday afternoon against Great Falls C.M. Russell at 2:30 p.m. at Siebel Fields in Helena.

The Bravettes (8-4-1) are the No. 2 seed from the Western Division. CMR is the No. 3 seed from the Eastern.

Flathead qualified for state by defeating Missoula Big Sky 3-2 in a play-in match last Thursday at Kidsports Complex. CMR (9-4-0) defeated Butte 5-0 in a play-in match.

CMR finished third at state last year, beating Helena High 2-0 in the consolation final. Bozeman beat Billings Senior 1-0 in the championship match.

On the boys side, Bozeman, Helena High and Billings Senior finished 1-2-3 last year at state.

In Class A, Whitefish’s girls travel to Billings Central for an 11 a.m. championship match Saturday.

Whitefish (12-2-0) is in the title contest for the second time in four years.

Billings Central (14-0-0) defeated Whitefish 2-1 in last year’s semifinal round. Central went on to win its fifth-straight championship.
