Glacier spikers end Western AA play 12-0; C-Falls sweeps Whitefish

MISSOULA — Glacier’s volleyball squad wrapped up regular-season play in style Thursday evening by sweeping Missoula Big Sky 25-16, 25-13, 25-18.

Katie Wiley had 11 of Glacier’s 30 kills and Cassi Hashley totaled five of the team’s seven blocks.

The only statistical area that favored Big Sky was digs with 46. Glacier had 32.

Glacier enjoyed an 11-1 edge in aces.

The third-ranked Wolfpack went 12-0 in Western AA action.

Overall, the team is 20-3.

“We’ve never had a volleyball team do that,” Glacier coach Christy Harkins said of an undefeated season in league play.

“We’ve been conference champs in 2010, but we’ve never had a perfect 12-0 season. The girls are pretty proud of that and they should be.”

It marked the second-straight year a team breezed through Western AA without a loss. Flathead did it last season.

Glacier, by virtue of winning the regular-season title, has an automatic bye to the upcoming state tournament, which begins Nov. 14 in Bozeman.

Columbia Falls 3, Whitefish 0

WHITEFISH — Columbia Falls defeated Whitefish 25-18, 25-22, 25-10 in Northwestern A action.

The victory gave the Wildkats (8-5, 6-2) the season sweep between the two rivals. Columbia Falls took the first meeting on Sept. 28, 25-16, 25-23, 25-18.

“Even though the games were not always close, we fought hard,” Whitefish coach Sarah Scott said.

“Columbia Falls played great defense. It was tough to get a ball down against them.”

Whitefish (4-8, 2-5) ends regular-season action tonight hosting league-leading Frenchtown.

This was the last match before divisionals for Columbia Falls, second-place finishers behind Frenchtown.
