Shirley A. Mackey, 87

Shirley A. Mackey of Spokane, died Aug. 29, 2013, at the age of 87, from complications of COPD. 

He was born Oct. 28, 1925, in Eureka, son of Alonzo and Jessie May Mackey. After graduation from Lincoln County High School in Eureka, he enlisted in the Army from 1946 to 1949. After his honorable discharge he went to Spokane Telegraph School and then worked for the Great Northern Railway, and later for Burlington Northern Railway as a clerk for 35 years. 

He will always be remembered for his love of family and love of life.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Aldus; and sisters, Naomi Robbe and Betty Peltier. 

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Mackey; three children, Cheryl and John Dineen, Barbara and Chuck Myers, and Ralph and Dorothy; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. 

A celebration of life will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at the Baptist Church in Eureka, followed by a gravesite service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Society, or the charity of your choice.
