Football roundup: Whitefish crushes Browning

WHITEFISH — Sean Foley returned an interception 45 yards for a touchdown and returned a kickoff 72 yards for another score as Whitefish cruised past Browning 45-14 Friday in Class A nonconference football play at Memorial Field.

Koler Kanistanaux also scored twice for the Bulldogs (2-0) on runs of 6 and 15 yards.

Nathan Boone was perfect on six PAT kicks and nailed a 41-yard field goal.

Quarterback Luke May was 10 of 18 passing for 166 yards and one touchdown. He also ran for one score.

Jack Streibich had three receptions for 53 yards to lead WHS.

Foley led the Bulldogs’ ground game with 57 yards on 10 carries.

The WHS defense held Browning to roughly 50 yards in total offense for the better part of three quarters.

POLSON — Colton Riebe ran for two touchdowns and Troy Scott ran for one and returned an interception for another as Dillon rolled by Polson in Class A nonconference play.

Polson (0-1) had five turnovers on the night — four interceptions and one lost fumble.

Dillon outgained Polson 309 yards to 206.

Polson’s Brady Hislop kicked a 24-yard field goal and Tanner Wilson caught an 8-yard touchdown pass from Andrew Weltz.

COLUMBIA FALLS — Ty Morgan hauled in his third touchdown of the night with no time left and caught the ensuing 2-point conversion to lead Columbia Falls to an exciting nonconference victory over Hamilton on Friday.

The Wildcats fell behind with a minute left in the game following a touchdown by Hamilton quarterback Josh Bauder. Undaunted, Columbia Falls drove down the field in short time to notch the winning score.

Morgan scored three touchdowns for the Wildcats for the second straight week, including a 53-yard catch and run off the arm of quarterback Jared Trinastich. A 97-yard kickoff return by Jayce Fagerland was clipped at the 1-yard line, setting up another Morgan score.

Columbia Falls (2-0) will play its first road game next week, traveling to Ronan for another nonconference tilt.

Eureka 24, Ronan 10

RONAN — Eureka’s Cole Jankovsky ran for 157 yards and three touchdowns and added 14 tackles and a fumble recovery as the Lions beat Ronan in the Class B season- opener for both teams.

Trailing 2-0 after the first quarter because of a safety on a bad snap, the Lions fought to lead 12-2 at the half. The second half outburst led Eureka to a victory.

Lions quarterback Austin Perez finished 10 of 21 passing with 159 yards and a touchdown. Trent Vaughn also added 18 tackles for Eureka.

“It was a battle,” Eureka coach Trevor Utter said.

“It was two solid teams that fought it out the whole way.”

Eureka (1-0) plays at Conrad next week.

Bigfork 26, Choteau 20

CHOTEAU — In a game delayed nearly two hours by lightning storms, Bigfork came away with a win over Choteau in a nonconference season- opener on Friday.

The Vikings took an early 14-0 lead after an 89-yard catch and run from tight end Cam Nissen, but had to fight late after the Bulldogs tied the score at 20. Bigfork’s lone score in the fourth quarter led to the victory.

Bigfork running back Boyd Rieke ran for two touchdowns and Nissen had 144 yards receiving in the win.

The Vikings host Florence next week in a nonconference game.
