Kalispell defendant accused of shooting wife pleads not guilty
The Kalispell man who is accused of shooting his wife pleaded not guilty in Flathead County District Court Thursday morning.
In proceedings that lasted only a few minutes before District Judge David Ortley, Steven Michael Foley pleaded not guilty to attempted deliberate homicide.
Foley, 39, is charged with shooting Jodi Stimson-Foley three times with a .22 caliber firearm the night of Aug. 19.
Afterwards, Foley reportedly called his ex-wife, Beth Foley, and told her about the shooting, prompting her to report the incident.
Kalispell Police responded to a home on Sixth Avenue West and found the wounded Stimson-Foley on the front porch. She survived the shooting after undergoing emergency surgery at Kalispell Regional Medical Center.
Soon after the shooting, police located and apprehended Foley several blocks from the Sixth Avenue West home.
Under questioning, Foley waived his rights and said “he concealed a gun from Stimson-Foley, walked into the living room where she was and then pulled the gun out and shot her repeatedly,” charging documents state.
Bail was set at $150,000, but Foley continues to be held at the Flathead County Detention Center.
