MISSOULA — Libby’s Jim Mee shot a 3-under-par 69 on Saturday to hold on to a share of first place after the second round at the Montana Open at Larchmont Golf Course.

Mee’s low round allowed him to separate from the pack of pro golfers at the top, but wasn’t enough to claim first outright entering the tournament’s final day. Missoula amateur Brian Beach was nearly flawless, shooting a 9-under 63 to jump into a tie at the top at 10-under 134.

The leaders have opened up a three-stroke lead on the pack, with Hayden, Idaho’s Russell Grove in third place at 7-under 137. Blayne Hobbs of Phoenix, and Kurt Kueffler are in fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Kalispell’s Ryan Malby is still in the hunt, at 2-under 142 in a tie for eighth. He’s tied with Polson’s Cameron Milton and Glen Griffith of Oro Valley, Ariz.

The tournament concludes today.
