Soccer roundup: Polson girls blank Breakers; SCS rolls

MISSOULA — Sarah Howell netted a hat trick and the Polson girls soccer team blanked Missoula Loyola 3-0 in nonconference action Tuesday.

Howell scored her first goal in the 24th minute, added her second in the 38th and finished the trick with a 54th-minute strike.

Polson (3-1) outshot Loyola 28-3. Goalkeepers Monica Cleveland and Jenna Ebertz combined for the clean sheet.

The Pirates travel to Hamilton on Saturday.

MISSOULA — The Pirates took an early lead on a 19th-minute own goal by Loyola, but the Rams stormed back with three goals before halftime.

Athan Hasselbrook put Loyola ahead 4-1 in the 72nd minute and Vance Huffman concluded the scoring with a goal in the 79th minute.

Loyola outshot Polson (0-4) 26-7.

Stillwater Christian 3, Bonners Ferry 1

BONNERS FERRY, Idaho — Joe King scored twice as Stillwater Christian overcame an early deficit to down Bonners Ferry in a nonconference game.

Bonners Ferry’s Juan Robles opened the scoring in the 29th minute but King netted an equalizer seven minutes later. Julian Emond scored on an assist from King in the 37th minute to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead shortly before halftime.

King added his second goal in the 71st minute.

“BJ Bach played great for us from the center mid position,” Stillwater coach Tim Anderson said. “Joe King and Julian Emond continued to combine for excellent finishes.

“(Bonner’s Ferry) controlled possession most of the second half and our goals came on good transitions after winning the ball in the back. Trenton Vann and Alex Sulzbacher were solid for us from the defender position.”

Stillwater (4-1) plays Lake City High School in Couer d’Alene on Sept. 20.
