FVCC hosts Missoula dance troupe

Flathead Valley Community College Theatre will open its fall season with a special performance of “How to Open a Cupboard” by Missoula’s Bare Bait Dance Friday.

The show includes a cast of professional dancers, music and sound design by musicians Bethany Joyce and John Sporman, and a danceable set design by Missoula visual artist Jack Metcalf.

“How to Open a Cupboard” is the physical manifestation of inner nostalgia, both crippling and jubilant. It uncovers what we keep bottled in, what we eradicate and what we coffer away forever. Through dance and storytelling, company members box themselves in physically, figuratively and mentally.

The show will be performed at 7 p.m. in the FVCC Theatre inside the Arts and Technology Building on the college’s Kalispell campus.

Tickets are $5 for general admission. Admission is free for all students.

In residence at Missoula’s Downtown Dance Collective, Bare Bait Dance aims to create dance in Montana for Montanans. A foundational goal of the company is to tour throughout the state bringing dance, performances and workshops to smaller Montana communities.
