Motivational speaker gives talk Monday night

 V.J. Smith, motivational speaker and author of “The Richest Man in Town,” is coming to Kalispell to present a powerful story about a cashier who lived a life of gratitude.

“The Richest Man in Town” details Smith’s friendship with Marty, a man who ran a cash register at a store in his hometown of Brookings, S.D. Marty had a powerful impact on the people who went through his line during his career, according to Smith.

Smith said Marty always had the longest line in the store because he appreciated each customer.

“Everyone has someone in their life who has qualities of compassion and caring,” Smith said. “I reconnect people to the important people in their lives.”

In addition to speaking to students at Whitefish, Columbia Falls, Flathead and Glacier high schools, Smith will give a free presentation from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Sept. 16 in the Glacier High School Performance Hall.

The public is invited to attend the presentation.

“There are no bells and whistles, no PowerPoint presentation, just me, a microphone and those who are in front of me,” Smith said.
