Garland 'Bryce' Hibbert Jr., 91

Garland “Bryce” Hibbert Jr., 91, passed away peacefully of natural causes in the loving care of Mountain View Manor in Eureka on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013.

He was born on Nov. 26, 1921, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Garland Bryce Hibbert Sr. and Ruth Larson Hibbert, the second of six children. He graduated from Garfield High in Los Angeles in 1939. He proudly served in the Armed Forces in the 503rd Parachute Regimental Combat Team during World War II. He participated as a paratrooper in the infamous “Recapture of Corregidor” in 1945.

Bryce attended North Idaho College after being honorably discharged from the military. He worked various jobs, including construction on Libby road and retired from Plum Creek Lumber in 1986. He enjoyed a hobby of woodworking after retirement. His family enjoys many handcrafted pieces of furniture and accessories that were made in his basement woodshop.

Bryce and Shirley Benson were married in 1947 and had three children Hal, Dawn and Gary. They were later divorced. In 1958 he moved to Eureka where he lived the rest of his life. In 1962, Bryce married Peggy Elliot and two children, Monte and Terri, joined the family.

Bryce was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy; his parents; and his five siblings, Sue, Ken, Dean, Bob and Harold.

Survivors include his son, Hal Hibbert of Spring Creek, Nev.; granddaughters, Beth Meza and Juan, and Heather Hibbert and Loni; son, Monte Grob and Terri of Kalispell; granddaughters, Trini Garrison, and Darci Greenwood and Tim; daughter, Dawn Frank and Ron of Pinehurst, Idaho; grandsons, Brent Frank and Valerie, Darin Frank and Sarah, Jayson Frank and Natalie, and Ryan Frank and Carrie; and granddaughter, Alycia Seely and Tyler; daughter, Terri Ling and John of  Bellingham, Wash.; granddaughters, Raini Hale and Tyler, Mariah Marsh and Gabe, and Tessa Witham and Buster; son, Gary Hibbert and Betty of Helena; grandson, Chris Hibbert and Bianca, and granddaughter Kenzie Camp and Nick; 36 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, at Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home, 222  First Ave., in Eureka. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at the Eureka Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Oskloski Road, followed by burial with military honors at the Tobacco Valley Cemetery in Eureka.
