Children's theater holds fundraiser

| September 18, 2013 6:00 PM

Bigfork Playhouse Children’s Theatre hosts a fundraising gala before its Sept. 28 performance of “The Wizard of Oz.”

The event starts at 6 p.m. in the Bigfork Center for the Performing Arts.

The nonprofit children’s theater is raising money to purchase its after-school building, located at 833 Grand Ave. Bigfork Playhouse Children’s Theatre stages its performances in the performing arts center, but its rehearsals, workshops, dance classes and other activities take place at the after-school building.

The building is co-owned, and the group is trying to buy out the private donor by April. The children’s theater so far has raised about $40,000 of its $100,000 goal, children’s theater’s artistic director Brach Thomson said in an email to the Inter Lake.

Proceeds from the Sept. 28 fundraiser will go toward that purchase, Thomson said.

The event includes drinks, hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction with more than 20 items up for bid. Auction items include a three-night stay at Bridge Street Cottages, five nights in a West Glacier vacation home, a custom “Wizard of Oz” painting by Tom Lewis, a handmade electric guitar by Kevin Witt and more.
