Rawlings has show in Bigfork

Well-known artist and educator John Rawlings will have a retrospective of sculptures and drawings on display at the Collage Gallery of Fine Art.

Rawlings’ “Circles and Spirals” exhibit will be on display at the Bigfork gallery, located at 573 Electric Ave., from Sept. 27 through the month of October. Meet him during an opening reception from 5 to 8 p.m.

Rawlings helped organize Flathead Valley Community College’s art department and has led the sculpture department with teaching and development. He has led groups of students on summer trips to Venice, Italy, to study and work.

This exhibition features works Rawlings completed over years of creating and developing his distinctive style.

“The process of bringing this body of work together has meant that I have had to look at pieces that I have not interacted with for some time,” Rawlings said. “Some are like old friends and could not be left out of the selection. … Others present themselves as if for the first time, and I am pleasantly surprised.”
