Windows on Whitefish plans fall mosaic classes

There is still time to get involved with Stumptown Art Studio’s Windows on Whitefish project.
The community art project seeks to create a four-panel mosaic depicting the four seasons in Whitefish. The fall mosaic window is well underway and is geared for completion this winter. It will join the summer and spring windows on the brick wall at the intersection of Second Street and Central Avenue in Whitefish.
The community public art project was launched by Stumptown Art Studio in January 2012.
Volunteers are invited to join the project. Once the introductory mosaic class has been completed, artists are eligible to work on the 6- by 9-foot mosaic window. Those who still need to finish their training pieces may come in any time that the Windows on Whitefish headquarters are open, during sessions or classes.
The next fish class, for mosaic beginners, is today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The next advanced class for the hanging garden charm will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
Space is limited, and preregistration is required by calling Stumptown Art Studio at 862-5929. All sessions are held at the former Coldwell Banker Building, 105 Baker Ave., Whitefish.
A full schedule of classes, community workshops and grouting sessions are planned for this fall and can be seen on the website at www.stumptownartstudio.org. Click on “WOW” on the home page.
Deb Stika, artistic director of Windows on Whitefish, has developed the images that will be used in the murals and is instructing the general public in the workshops and construction of the murals. She has also established a mosaic co-op for those interested in creating their own projects, such as a table top, a frame or mirror, a lamp, a bird house, or more.
