COLUMBIA FALLS —  Jackson Yates scored in stoppage time with an assist going to Nathan Boone as Whitefish tied Columbia Falls 5-5 in Northern A soccer action Thursday afternoon at Flip Darling Field.

Columbia Falls had taken a 5-4 lead at 76 minutes on a goal by Quentin Foust.

Foust also scored the first goal of the match at 20 minutes.

He also had two assists.

Columbia Falls’ Keenan Jessat completed a hat trick at 72 minutes. He also scored at 27 and 47 minutes.

Nathan Boone had a hand in nearly all of Whitefish’s scoring. He netted two goals and also assisted on Jon Dittman’s goal at 28 minutes.

Jared Johnson scored the other goal for Whitefish at 42 minutes.

Taven Edland assisted on two scores for Whitefish.

“It was a great game,” Columbia Falls coach Peter Browne said.

“We played Tuesday and had a little setback (3-0 loss at Bigfork), but our kids played toe-to-toe with Whitefish.”

In shots on goal, Columbia Falls held a slight edge, 17-15. Whitefish ruled in corner kicks 7-0.

“Whitefish is a very good team, very well-coached,” Browne said.

“Our boys hung in there and kept their composure. It was a great game for us. It’s important that we build on that performance for the rest of the season.”

Whitefish came into the rivalry contest with a 31-match winning streak.

Columbia Falls moves to 3-3-1 overall, 0-1-1 in league.

“It was great to see Keenan get three goals,” Browne said.

“He hasn’t found the net in awhile.

“The midfield did an awesome job,” Browne continued.

“Caleb Baumann controlled the pace of the game. The guys in the back ... we lost our central defender so we had to move some people around. We don’t have a lot of depth, but the kids stepped up. It was a great performance.”

Columbia Falls is back on the pitch hosting Polson on Thursday.

Whitefish (4-0-1, 1-0-1) plays at Bigfork on Saturday.

“We played our game, did what we wanted to accomplish. We just couldn’t string anything together to put one away.”

COLUMBIA FALLS — Haley Nicholson scored her second goal of the game with less than a minute to play to send Whitefish to a Northern A conference victory over Columbia Falls.

The winning goal came off a free kick as the ball found its way through a crowd of defenders to land on the foot of Nicholson, who set the tone early, giving the Bulldogs a lead five minutes into the game with her first goal.

Nicholson also picked up an assist, helping on the game-tying goal from Anna Peterson in the 69th minute. Whitefish fell behind early in the second half after Haley Purdy scored nine minutes in to give Columbia Falls a 2-1 lead.  Kendra King scored the Wildkats first goal of the night.

“It was exciting,” Whitefish coach Wendy Farrens said.

“To be down 2-1 and come back and tie, let alone win, they showed great resiliency. Everyone came to play.”
