Hockey: Nationals fall to Wild, again

WHITEFISH — The Glacier Nationals fell behind early and couldn’t recover in a 4-2 AWHL loss to the Gillette (Wyo.) Wild Friday at Stumptown Ice Den.

Gillette (2-0) scored twice in the first four minutes, forcing Nationals coach Joakim Falt to take a timeout. The Wild then took a 3-0 lead before John Tesarek put Glacier (0-2) on the board with 3:02 remaining in the first.

Kaden Hummell beat Nationals goaltender Ethan Wiese early in the second period to reclaim Gillette’s three-goal lead and Paul Kinder scored Glacier’s second goal 7:13 into the second on assists from Padraic Ripple and Wiese.

The Nationals outshot the Wild 10-6 in the third period but neither team scored in the frame.

Glacier hosts Gillette again today at 7:05 p.m.
