Larson, Avery medal; pace Glacier on links

FORTINE — Glacier’s Scott Larson and Teigan Avery claimed medalist honors for the first time this fall golf season at the Kalispell Invitational on Friday at Crystal Lakes Golf Course.

Larson opened with a 70 at Northern Pines on Thursday and finished up with an 84 for a 154 total and a three-shot victory over Pat Colberg of Missoula Hellgate, 77-80—157.

Devin Bray of Hellgate, who had the best round on the final day at Crystal Lakes with a 79, placed third with a 159 score.

Glacier had five in the top 10. Tommy Mann, 77-83—160, tied for fourth. Cody Sherrill, 74-88—162 and Sam Stern, 77-85—162, tied for sixth. Greg Jones, 82-82—164, was 10th.

Avery put together two rounds of 80 to run away from the field. Her 160 total was 15 shots better than runner-up Katie Wills of Hellgate, 87-88—175.

Larson held a four-shot lead after Thursday’s session while Avery had a seven-shot advantage.

Flathead had three golfers crack the top 10.

For the boys, Joseph Potkonjak, 79-83—162, tied for sixth.

On the girls side, Jenna Jensen, 93-94—187, was fifth and Morgan Knutson, 95-98—193, finished seventh.

Glacier had three more girls in the top 10 — McKenna Hulslander, 97-102—199, tied for eighth; and McKenna Tinseth, 102-104—206, and Kyrsten Seibanaler, 104-102—206, tied for 10th.

The Glacier boys and Hellgate girls were team champions.
