Columbia Falls spikers win Bonners Ferry Invitational

BONNERS FERRY, Idaho — Columbia Falls won all six of its matches, averaging nearly seven aces each game, to win the Bonners Ferry Invitational volleyball tournament on Saturday.

The Wildcats beat Libby in the one-set final of the eight-team event.

“We did a really good job of spreading out our hitters,” Columbia Falls coach Josie Brown said.

“We played some great defense today.

“We had some close ones prior to (the final) that were nail-biters,” she added.

“(The girls) keep figuring out how to get that last point though, that’s all that matters. I’m excited about how the girls are coming together as a team.”

Columbia Falls has two league matches this week — Thursday at Frenchtown and home Saturday with Whitefish.

Thompson Falls

def. Bigfork 3-1

BIGFORK — Madison Fitchell had 11 of Thompson Falls’s 46 kills and 17 digs in a District 7B victory over Bigfork.

Erica Sorlie had 35 assists and five aces for the victors.

Set scores were not available.

Eureka (2-5 overall) dropped a pair of matches, each in three sets, at the Troy volleyball quad, losing to both Missoula Loyola and Florence.

“(We had) way too many unforced errors (against Loyola),” Eureka coach Charli Chapman said.

“We didn’t show up ready to go, lost due to mistakes we made.

“Against Florence, I was pleased with how the girls played,” Chapman added.

“We did things better, just not consistent enough yet.”

Whitefish 3-1

WHITEFISH — Anaconda downed Whitefish 25-19, 26-28, 25-14, 25-15 in a nonconference Class A volleyball match Saturday.

Whitefish (1-3) rallied for a narrow victory in the second set but couldn’t solve Anaconda’s defense.

“They played defense incredibly and picked a lot of stuff up,” Whitefish coach Sarah Scott said.

“They were definitely here to play hard.”

Marlow Schulz led Whitefish with six kills, three aces and two blocks. Bekah Weaver and Allie Schulz each had eight assists and Brittany Barnes tallied 17 digs.

Whitefish has two leagues matches this week — Thursday at Polson and Saturday at Columbia Falls.
