Football roundup: Perez throws 4 TD passes as Eureka rolls by Florence
EUREKA — Senior quarterback Austin Perez threw four touchdown passes to guide Eureka to a 28-7 Class B nonconference football victory over Florence on Friday night.
Perez finished 14 of 29 passing for 181 yards. He threw one interception.
Perez had 142 yards passing in the first half.
Perez led the ground game with 85 yards on 12 carries.
Dalton Smith, five receptions for 55 yards, had touchdown catches of 25 and 13 yards.
Miles Griffin, two receptions for 50 yards, had touchdown catches of 25 yards twice.
Trent Vaughn had eight carries for 46 yards for Eureka.
“We were sluggish in the second half,” Eureka coach Trevor Utter said.
“We lost our intensity after being up 22-0.”
Utter said Perez was “on the money” in the first half.
Defensively, Vaughn, an inside linebacker, led Eureka with 16 tackles and a fumble recovery. Inside linebacker Cole Jankovsky had eight tackles and a fumble recovery.
Freshman outside linebacker James Dunn had seven tackles and returned an interception 50 yards.
Eureka (3-1) opens District 7B play on Friday at Thompson Falls.

Bigfork 35, Ronan 22
BIGFORK — Boyd Rieke had touchdown runs of 3, 5 and 17 yards and quarterback Josh Sandry ran 17 yards for a score, passed 11 yards to Cameron Nissen for a touchdown and kicked five extra points as fourth-ranked Bigfork (3-0) topped Ronan in Class B nonconference action.
Rieke had 143 yards rushing on 21 attempts. Vinney Quirk had 102 yards on 19 attempts and Sandry 88 yards on 14 rushes.
“It was back-and-forth,” Bigfork coach Todd Emslie said.
“We scored on the opening drive.”
Lucas Gerhardt scored three times for Ronan on runs of 3, 2 and 6 yards. He finished with 145 yards rushing on 31 carries.
“The offensive line played really well,” Emslie said.
“We had a couple of backs who ran really well (Rieke and Quirk). Josh Sandry had a great game at quarterback.
“It was a good game for us,” Emslie said.
“I think we moved forward a little bit. That’s good. I’m proud of the kids.”
Bigfork plays a nonconference game on Friday at Shelby.

BROWNING — Polson quarterback Andrew Weltz ran for two scores and threw a touchdown pass and Cedrick Smith returned an interception 35 yards for another touchdown as Polson (2-1) closed out Class A nonconference play by downing Browning.
Weltz’s found the end zone on runs of 4 and 5 yards.
He passed 52 yards to Tanner Wilson in the opening quarter.
Weltz finished 15 of 32 passing for 232 yards.
Polson had 110 yards rushing.
Browning had 33 rushing yards and 86 passing.
“We head into our conference next week,” Polson coach Scott Olson said.
“We had a lot of penalties and we have to be able to put the ball in the end zone when we get down there.”
Polson hosts Frenchtown on Friday. It’s homecoming week for the Pirates.

WHITEFISH — Whitefish quarterback Luke May threw two touchdown passes and ran for another as the Bulldogs blanked Corvallis in a nonconference Class A football game.
May finished 7 of 12 passing for 166 yards and added 55 rushing yards on five carries. Sean Foley led Whitefish (3-1) with 106 receiving yards on three catches and Caleb Thilmony ran for 67 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries.
“The defense did great,” Whitefish coach Chad Ross said. “(Corvallis) had 25 total yards when the clock started running, so just a great defensive effort.”
