Soccer: Stevi knocks off Whitefish boys; WHS girls roll
WHITEFISH — Stevensville stayed undefeated on the soccer season Saturday afternoon by handing two-time defending Class A state champion Whitefish its first loss in 33 matches.
Stevensville (9-0) scored four straight goals in the second half during a 15-minute stretch for a 5-2 victory.
Stevensville scored first, 4 minutes into play. Whitefish (6-1-1) tied it at 1-all before the half ended on a goal by Jared Johnson, assisted by Nathan Boone.
Boone scored the final goal of the match in the 70th minute.
The loss was the first for WHS in 2 1/2 years.
“It was a really good run,” Whitefish coach O’Brien Byrd said.
“We knew Stevensville was good.
“We knew the best team was gonna win this one, so give full credit to Stevensville. They won, they certainly had more fight in them than we did.
“Everyone was disappointed in their performances,” Byrd said.
“No excuses in this one, or pointing fingers.”
Whitefish is back in action Tuesday hosting Polson.

WHITEFISH — Stevensville managed to slip in a goal on Whitefish to open the scoring, but it was all Whitefish after that. Haley Nicholson, Grace Kurtz, Anna Peterson and Jess Baldonado all scored goals in the victory.
Whitefish (7-1) has won seven straight.
“We’re keeping our momentum going forward,” Whitefish coach Wendy Farrens said.
“Working to keep improving.”
Farrens said the goal by Nicholson at 37 minutes was crucial.
“We were able to bounce back and tie it up just before halftime,” she said.
“We had a much better second half.”
