Log Jam Inc. is a nonprofit corporation organized to financially and emotionally assist the families of Montana loggers, log-truck drivers, chip-truck drivers and mill workers killed in work-related accidents.

Log Jam was started as a result of the 1987 death of Bill Hardy in a timber-related accident in the woods.

After the accident, his wife, Kathy, and daughter Breanna received assistance from local families and friends. Kathy and Doug Brown, in turn, established the Bill Hardy Memorial Fund to provide timely support for others who found themselves facing similar tragedies. In 1990, the fund made its first benefit payout and changed the name of the fund to Log Jam Inc.

Since Log Jam ’89, a total of 47 families have received more than $280,000 in assistance. This is the fund’s only fundraiser. All directors and officers of the organization volunteer their time and effort to Log Jam.
