Standoff drags on in downtown Havre
HAVRE — A man who reportedly held a gun to the stomach of a Havre bar patron has engaged police in an hours-long standoff during which officers were trying to convince him to put down his weapon.
Havre police spotted the suspect outside the bar shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday.
Police Chief Gabe Matosich says the suspect is armed, so officers were keeping people away from the area of the US Bank Building, where the standoff continued into Monday afternoon. Several businesses in the immediate area were closed.
Police, Montana Highway Patrol officers and Hill County sheriff’s deputies were on the scene overnight. Border Patrol and FBI agents offered reinforcements on Monday.
