Annexation needed for rail park
A proposed annexation of a 40-acre Flathead County Rail Park just east of Whitefish Stage Road seems to be a necessary step for continuing momentum that has been built toward the park’s development.
And considerable momentum has been built toward that end by the Flathead County Development Authority and Montana West Economic Development, among other parties that have been pursuing engineering plans and grants for infrastructure development of an industrial park.
City water and sewer services would be a crucial ingredient for actual investment and development to materialize, and that can’t happen without annexation, a move that would also set the city up for future tax revenues. Without annexation, all the efforts that have been made so far may be undermined.
From trees to paper to trees
A great opportunity for newspaper readers to give back to the community will occur this Saturday when the Inter Lake and the Kalispell Street Tree Commission will sponsor the 22nd bi-annual Paper and Recycle Drive at the county fairgrounds.
Your old newspapers and inserts will benefit the Kalispell Parks Department’s tree education program. You can also bring magazines, old phone books, cardboard, catalogues and even aluminum cans, but no glass, Styrofoam or plastic. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
By the way, it is worth noting that the newsprint that is used in the Inter Lake and other newspapers comes 100 percent from residual waste from lumber plants and urban waste from recycled material such as what will be collected on Saturday. If you recycle the Inter Lake, you are keeping the environment clean and helping to provide newsprint for future readers.
Job fair is great opportunity
The Flathead Job Service and Flathead Valley Community College are teaming up to stage a Job Fair next Wednesday that will help unemployed workers connect with more than 70 area employers with active job listings. That’s good news for the 3,649 unemployed people in Flathead County counted in the state’s latest unemployment report.
It bodes well for our recovering economy that so many local companies once again are hiring. Career opportunities appear to run the gamut, from health-care positions to jobs in our growing firearms industry.
If you’re looking for work or contemplating a career change, you just might find the answer at the Job Fair. It runs from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at FVCC’s Arts and Technology Building, and it’s free.
