Belligerent bruiser busted on train

A 42-year-old registered violent offender with a prior conviction for second-degree murder was arrested by a Flathead County Sheriff’s deputy for misdemeanor assault after getting into a physical fight with the conductor of a train that had to stop in Olney to deal with the belligerent bruiser.

A smelly Smith Lake Road issue was reported by a resident who said there was water running down the driveway that could be sewage, looking bad and smelling “stinky.” It was determined to be gray water — wastewater from sinks, showers and baths — due to an issue that would be repaired that day.

A man was cited after walking behind a South Cedar Drive home and yelling at a woman’s dog, saying he was going to kill it the next time it got out, then threatening to kill the woman’s husband when he confronted the man.

A report of a suspicious man entering a Whitefish Stage Road home, the owner of which was out of the state, led to deputies arresting a man for burglary. The man had copper piping in the back of his truck.

An officer counseled a woman and a resident on Capistrano North West after the woman reported she was fishing in a boat at an adjacent pond and he yelled at her, saying she was trespassing, and threw rocks at her.

A pair of elementary-school-age boys reportedly pointed a gun, possibly a pellet gun, at the son of a Three Mile Drive man and the boy’s friends and told them to get out.  

A Foothill Road man called with questions about shooting a cannon from his property. He was referred to the county clerk due to “an unfortunate accident.”

A bicyclist called for an animal control officer after being chased by a pair of pit bulls on Derns Road.

A lucky llama on Kaeding Creek Road survived an attack by a mountain lion.


A worried woman contacted the Kalispell Police Department to report a man had been threatening to kill her and had his friends warning her to watch out, which she believed was in response to her “ratting him out” to law enforcement. Both were advised of the state’s privacy-in-communications statute.

Several turkeys were reported congregating in the middle of Woodland Avenue, but a responding officer reported they were no longer there and there was “nothing ‘afowl’ here.”

A large helium balloon on U.S. 2 West was cut three times over the last several weeks.

No one was injured when a truck collided with a full school bus on Parkway Drive.


A returned runaway youth was arrested on a warrant by a Columbia Falls Police officer after his mother reported he was possibly back in his bedroom because his door was now locked. He was in the room and was subsequently transported to the Flathead County Juvenile Detention Center.


Eight fire departments responded to nine grass and recreational fires between 12:41 and 10:21 p.m. Thursday in Kalispell, Evergreen, Whitefish, Columbia Falls, Kila and Martin City.
