Softball roundup: Loggers rally by Wildkats; Pirates roll

LIBBY — Kelsey Klin clubbed two triples and added a single and drove in three runs in four trips to plate and Hannah England had another solid effort in the circle as Libby dropped Columbia Falls 10-6 on Thursday in Northwestern A softball play.

Klin’s extra base hits came in the second and fifth innings.

Libby (7-0 overall, 2-0 league) trailed 3-2, but pushed eight runs across the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning to take command.

England allowed six hits, walked three and fanned six batters to move to 7-0 on the season.

Devon Gallagher, Auria Benefield and Dayln Germany all doubled for Libby.

Tiffany Hummer and Madi Fetters had doubles for Columbia Falls.

“All of them hit the ball well, connected them together,” Libby coach Dean Thompson said.

“They kept their composure (trailing 3-2). We just need to keep getting better and better every week.”

Libby continues with league play next Thursday at Polson while Columbia Falls has a conference outing at Ronan.

POLSON — Jessica Bagnell turned in a stellar performance in the circle and at the plate as Polson blanked Whitefish in Northwestern A play.

Bagnell improved to 7-2 on the season as she held Whitefish to no hits, issued no walks and fanned five batters in the first three innings.

At the plate, the senior was 2 for 2 with two doubles and drove in three runs.

“She’s a good hitter,” Polson coach Larry Smith said of Bagnell.

“She got herself into a little slump (lately). This was a good way to break out of it.”

Whitefish’s Jordan Sletten broke up a perfect game bid by Bagnell and reliever Jaylin Kenney with a double in the top of the fourth inning. Bagnell and Kenney combined on a 2-hitter.

Whitefish pitcher Halle Reading checked Polson on six hits.

Polson (9-2, 2-1) is back in action next Thursday hosting Libby.

Whitefish (0-4, 0-3) hosts Browning on Tuesday in a nonconference contest.
