‘Opal’

Flathead Valley Community College Theatre, Thursday-Saturday, April 24-26, 7 p.m. 

 The Flathead Valley Community College Theatre presents the musical story of a 7-year-old aristocratic girl who is orphaned in a shipwreck and placed in an Oregon lumber camp in 1904. Opal’s one desire is to find a way to return to her parents and her former life, and to survive, she creates a world of fantasy and enchantment. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for senior citizens. Admission is free for students. Andrew Gromiller and the Organically Grown

O’Shaughnessy Center, Whitefish, Friday, April 25, 8 p.m. 

 Andrew Gromiller and the Organically Grown bring their music, which includes elements of rhythm and blues, rock, gospel and soul, to the Flathead Valley as part of a statewide tour. Gromiller shares the stage with his wife, Christine, also on vocals, and their son Zion on drums, as well as Eddie Tsuru and Manny Yanes on bass and Bob Packwood on keyboards. As a singer, Gromiller has performed with Susan Tedeschi, Etta James, Maceo Parker, Buddy Miles, Ray Manzarek, Cyril Neville, George Porter Jr. and Deep Banana Blackout. Gromiller studied at the Berklee College of Music and has been performing and touring for almost three decades. Tickets are $22 and are available at www.andrewgromiller.com or at the door.

 University of Montana student organ recital 

Eidsvold Lutheran Church, Somers, Sunday, April 27, 4 p.m. 

Organ students of Nancy Cooper, Laura Jaquette, Marion Min, Sean Brogan, Laura Matzke, and Megan Meadows, will be performing works by Bach, Haydn, Vierne, Brahms, and von Paradis. There will also be works that include flute, oboe, and trumpet. An offering will be taken to benefit the organ maintenance fund. Refreshments will be served following the concert. ‘Pippin’

Whitefish Performing Arts Center, Friday through Sunday, April 25-27, 7 p.m. 

The magical, musical fable will be performed by high school students from around the Flathead Valley as part of the Alpine Kids! Theatre Project educational outreach program. Currently enjoying a sold-out revival on Broadway, “Pippin” tells the tale of a young prince on a death-defying journey to find the meaning of his existence. Will he choose a happy but simple life? Or will he risk it all for a singular flash of glory? The show features a score composed by Tony Award winning composer/lyricist, Stephen Schwartz (“Wicked,” “Godspell”), and original direction and choreography by the legendary Bob Fosse. ‘Pieces of My Life: The King and Me’

Glacier High School, Thursday, May 1, 7:30 p.m. 

Ryan Pelton's recent performance as Elvis Presley in Bigfork was so well received, he is coming back to perform in Kalispell. Pelton will again perform his brand new show, telling the story of an unlikely Elvis impersonator, which includes many stories and features the main song from his movie "The Identical," which was just shown at the Nashville Film Festival and also stars Ashley Judd and Ray Liotta. The show will also feature some duets with D'arcy Park. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students, and are available at Snappy Sport Senter in Kalispell or at EasyTik.com  

 

‘Jazz Night with the Maestro’

Alpine Lighting Ballroom, Kalispell, Friday, April 25, 7:30 p.m. 

 Glacier Symphony and Chorale’s music director, John Zoltek will trade his baton for an electric guitar to play with jazz musicians Don Caverly on percussion and Ron Reeves on electric bass. This will be the premiere performance of the trio, offering an array of modern jazz tunes by Jeff Beck, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Dave Holland, Mongo Santamaria and Wes Montgomery. In addition, the trio will play a number of original jazz songs penned by guitarist Zoltek just for this occasion. To set the scene, the Alpine Ballroom will be transformed into a casual nightclub with seating at tables and a cash wine and beer bar.
