Museum screens "Tender Mercies"
The Museum at Central School in Kalispell features a free screening of the 1983 film, "Tender Mercies" as part of its monthly film club on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Alcoholic drifter Mac Sledge (Robert Duvall) comes into the life of a lonely widow (Tess Harper) and her young son (Allan Hubbard) in the barren flatlands of Texas. But when Mac is revealed to be a once-famous country singer, he must face a painful past and an uncertain future. The new relationships Mac forges inspire him to revive his career in this touching drama co-starring Wilford Brimley, Betty Buckley and Ellen Barkin.
Duvall won the Academy Award and Golden Globe for best actor, and the film was awarded an Oscar for best original screenplay.
The film is rated PG and is one hour, 32 minutes long.
Anyone may attend and there is no charge. Donations will be accepted to help defray the cost of acquiring and showing the films. The movie and popcorn are free, and wine, beer, pop and water will be for sale. Seating is provided, but people can also bring their own floor pillows, portable chairs, or whatever is comfortable for viewing the film.
