Washington mudslide search winding down

OSO, Wash. (AP) — The number of people working on what they call “the pile” at the Oso mudslide has dropped to a few dozen.

Hundreds of people searched the debris in the weeks after the March 22 landslide buried about three dozen homes along the North Fork of the Stillaguamish River.

The bodies of 41 victims have been recovered and identified. Two people remain missing.

The workers are focused in areas where search dogs have signaled alerts.

Workers also are removing debris from the river to open a channel and clearing Highway 530, which remains impassable.
