Glacier swept the annual crosstown track dual, setting a handful of records in the process, at Legends Stadium on Tuesday.

Wolfpack senior Evan Epperly won both the 200- and 400-meter dashes, setting the meet record in the latter with a time of 50. 64 seconds. The time blew away the old mark of 52.94 set by Glacier’s Taylor Hart in 2009.

“Beautiful weather, track was good,” Epperly said. “I just want to come out here and compete. It’s crosstown, you want to win your events.”

The Glacier boys won 11 of the 17 events at the meet, taking the team title by a score of 82-63. Nathan Connell in the 800, Zach Dennehy in the discus and Brock Sandry in the 3,200 all set state qualifying marks.

Flathead’s Dillon Thomas also set a new record at the meet, crossing the line in the 110 hurdles in 15.49, the first athlete to set a state qualifying mark in the event at the crosstown meet. Thomas’ time passed former Brave Duncan Aylor’s mark of 15.70 set in 2009.

Flathead’s Sylas Schutt also set a state mark with a win in the 3,200.

Glacier’s girls won 10 of the 17 events in the dual, but it was their depth that won the day.

Senior thrower Tessa Krueger was the only double-winner for the Wolfpack, winning the shot put and the discus. Her discus throw of 120 feet, 5.5 inches far surpassed classmate Shauna Williams’ old meet record set last year of 112 feet. Williams, who finished second on Tuesday in both the shot put and discus, also beat her old discus record with a throw of 118-10.

Keyawna Larson continued her strong start to the season with a record throw of 134-3 in the javelin, passing Flathead’s Kelsey Davis’ mark of 119-1 set in 2012.

Flathead’s Rhiannon Sturgess won both the 100 and 300 hurdles, topping the meet record in the 300 my nearly a second. Sturgess topped the mark of 47.37 set last year by the Bravettes’ Kwyn Johnson with a time of 46.48.

“I didn’t even know what the meet record was, it’s a good surprise,” Sturgess said. “It was perfect weather for the 300s today. I hit all the hurdles with my right leg so that really helped me out.”

Bravettes teammate Megan Russell set a state qualifying mark with a win in the long jump.

Both teams are back on the track on Saturday for the ARM Invitational in Whitefish.
