Glacier All-Stars to play in Babe Ruth World Series
HELENA — The Glacier All-Stars are headed to the Babe Ruth 13-year-old World Series in Glen Allen, Va.
Glacier defeated Lewiston, Idaho, 5-4 in Sunday’s baseball championship game at the Pacific Northwest Regional to earn the trip to Virginia. World Series dates are Aug. 16-23.
It marked the second time Glacier and Lewiston met in this regional. Glacier also won the first meeting in pool play on Saturday 6-1.
Glacier advanced to Sunday’s championship round with a 3-1 record in pool games.
Glacier, the top seed from its pool, beat Longview, Wash., in Sunday morning’s semifinal round 8-4. Lewiston edged Sedro-Woolley, Wash., 4-3 in the other semifinal pairing.
Columbia Falls and Whitefish will honor the champs with a firetruck ride today starting at 4:45 p.m. at Sapa-Johnsrud Field in Columbia Falls. At 6 p.m. the team will be in Whitefish for a parade that will begin at Memorial Field.
