Cat wins in battle with a bat

Flathead County is going a little batty. The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office responded to yet another call of a found bat. Deputies picked up a dead bat from a residence on Whitefish Stage that a woman’s cat had brought in the house. The cat is current on its vaccinations, and the bat will be sent to Missoula for testing. 

A break-in was reported on Montana 35 that occurred Wednesday night. A motorcycle and an ATV were taken. 

A woman brought in a fraudulent check from a nonexistent bank in Ukraine. 

A sewing machine was reported missing from Conestoga Court. 

A black angus cow was seen wandering on Trumble Creek Road on Thursday. 

A man knocked on a woman’s door on U.S. 2 in Lakeside on Thursday evening trying to sell magazine subscriptions. He also asked for a drink of water, which the woman refused to give him. 

A group of “belligerent, drunk” men were spotted on the lake and were throwing things off of their boat. Lakeside officers located the group and cited them for littering. 

A Bigfork business was reported for holding “illegal weddings.” The caller stated that the business is not charging for hosting the weddings and that so far this summer, 16 weddings have been performed there. The reporting party just wanted this information on record. 


Kalispell Police responded to a man sitting on his porch “screaming and yelling” Thursday on Fourth Avenue West North. The man was intoxicated but agreed to pack it in for the night. 


A man called the Columbia Falls Police Department to report his dirt bike stolen from Fourth Avenue West. 


Whitefish Police received a call about a woman who was walking around Depot Park “shouting into the air.” The caller wanted law enforcement to check on her and make sure she was OK. 

Someone was spotted shooting a BB gun at a fawn on West Fourth Street on Thursday.
