New superintendent for Helena Flats School
Dan Anderson has been named the new superintendent/principal of Helena Flats School.
He joins the district from his former position as West Valley School principal.
Anderson was principal of West Valley for the past two years. Prior to that, he served in the district in a variety of positions including assistant principal, athletic director and teacher, for more than a decade.
Anderson holds a Master of Educational Leadership degree from the University of Montana, a Bachelor of Science in education from the University of North Dakota and completed Officer Candidate School at the North Dakota Military Academy.
“I was pretty excited about the opportunity to come to the district,” Anderson said, noting that he looks forward to a new challenge. “There’s a lot of great things going on at this school.”
Anderson said he was approached by staff in Helena Flats when the superintendent position opened up in June.
He replaces Gary Weitz, who retired after two years in the position.
Helena Flats is a kindergarten- through eighth-grade school with an enrollment of roughly 212 students and a staff of 23. The school uses a Montessori approach for kindergarten through fourth grade.
