The National Park Service has decided to continue its contract with Belton Chalets Inc. for Glacier National Park’s two backcountry chalets.

Belton Chalets was awarded a new 10-year contract to operate the Sperry and Granite Park chalets during the summer months.

Granite Park has been run as a hiker shelter providing lodging and kitchen facilities for guests to prepare their own meals while Sperry Chalet is a full-service lodge that provides guests with meals.

Other services to be provided by Belton Chalets include environmental education programs for guests, limited sales of snacks and emergency care items, and vehicle transportation to and from the trailheads leading to the chalets.

Belton Chalet Inc. has a long history at the chalets, operating them from 1954 to 1992, then Granite Park Chalet from 1996-1997, Sperry Chalet from 1999 to 2004, and both chalets again from 2005 to the present.

The competitive process for the contract was initiated early this year, and all offers had to be submitted by May 19.
