Helena's Heller wins State Mid-Am golf
BUTTE — Even with his worst round of the tournament, Helena’s Parker Heller held off the field on the final day to win the Montana State Mid-Amateur golf championship on Saturday at Butte Country Club.
Heller had four bogeys and a double in his final round, shooting a 4-over-par 74, but was able to secure a four-stroke victory at 1-over 211 for the tournament thanks to a rough day at the top of the leader board.
Clancy’s Michael Williams, who was four strokes back in second place entering the day, was 7-over and Billings’ Jim Coleman, who was six back in third, was 2-over. Kalispell’s Logan Lindholm, the defending Mid-Am champion, was 5-over, finishing in a tie for seventh.
Spencer Williams of East Helena made a run up the leader board after entering the day in 10th. Williams made five birdies on the final day to shoot 3-under 67 and finish in a tie for second place. Big Sky’s Drew Vanyo was the only other golfer to shoot under par in the final round, shooting 2-under to finish in fourth place.
Whitefish’s Brad Grattan finished in a tie for 12th. Kalispell’s Earl Rife and Whitefish’s Shawn Tucker tied for 15th. Libby’s Joe Cielak finished in 18th.
