Glacier's Avery in charge at AA golf invitational
GREAT FALLS — Teigan Avery, the defending Class AA state champion, opened the 2014 golf season Monday afternoon by carding an even-par 72 at Meadow Lark Country Club.
Avery, a junior, has a 4-shot edge over Shealyn Hafer of Butte.
Jenna Jensen of Flathead is tied for seventh and eight shots off the pace.
On the team front, Glacier is third with a 353 total. Billings West leads with a 347.
Flathead, 387, is 10th.
In boys play, Glacier had two individual post rounds that had them listed in the top 10.
Scott Larson carded a 1-under 71, putting him in a three-way tie for fourth place. He is three shots off the pace.
Cody Sherrill, 73, is seventh.
Walter Austin of Missoula Sentinel tops the leader board with his 68.
Flathead’s Ryan Keenan is tied for eighth with a 74.
Team wise, Glacier is fifth, 305; just six shots behind the leader — C.M. Russell with a 299. Flathead is 14th, 336.
The 36-hole event ends today with play at Eagle Falls Golf Course.
